Let the Driving Begin

We take breakfast in the hotel.  We met a couple from Michigan yesterday at the WELT and they join us for breakfast.  We enjoy the visit, but now it's time to go.  We are packed and ready.  We haven't quite figured out the Nav system but we figure we have plenty of time. Terry at the helm for the first leg of the journey.  I'm not the best navigator :) and we never do find the concentration camp at Dachau. Losers......But the drive was beautiful, The autobahn is finally a reality and Terry is having a blast at the wheel, reaching speeds of well over 100 mph. The roads are so well maintained.   One  must keep up or move over.  We learn this very quickly.  Thank you all for the advance warning  on this issue.

Interestingly enough, we have no problem finding the Monastery in Andechs,  The church is magnificent and I take a seat in a pew to absorb the solemn beauty.  They have been brewing beer here for centuries and Terry will sample one just to make sure they are doing it right!
Strict rule about drinking and driving, there will be none of that, not even one beer!

Now it's Kathy's turn.  I'm not quite as aggressive as Terry, and I only top out at just over 100.  EEEEKKK, my brain is not geared for this but I am catching on very quickly.  Forging ahead, we are now off to see the Neuschwanstein Castle, the one Disney used for his model for Disneyland.  You can see the castle from the autobahn and it is stunning.   We arrive at the castle grounds but decide not to walk the 40 minutes to tour the castle.  We appreciate it's beauty from below and decide to continue on to Fussen where we have a reservation for the night.  It didn't take us but twice around town to find our hotel.  A charming old castle converted into lovely little rooms.  A 10 minute walk to town along a quaint garden path leads us to the main plaza.  We are a bit tired of brats so pasta sounds like a great alternative.  We have a great dinner and make our way back to the hotel.  We are the only guests thus far and are enjoying the one on one service we receive from our host.  A bottle of vino on the deck and another day is in the rear view mirror.

We wake to an overcast morning but the forecast promises a nice day.  We have a hearty breakfast and are now heading towards the lovely lakeside town of Lindau .

The island is a bustle of tourists and locals on holiday for the weekend.  The weather is picture perfect.  It is a challenge to find our hotel through the cobble stone narrow alleys that are otherwise known as streets. It turns out our hotel is on one of these streets where there happens to be a farmers market.   Navigating our way through pedestrians and bicyclists is a bit unnerving.  We finally reach our destination and are fortunate to find one of the few free overnight parking spots, We are Peterson's after all and we always find a parking spot!  We get all checked in and boy is it time for a nice cold beer.  Down to the lake front we go.
