Long Day Behind the Wheel

We have chosen to make this a driving day to get fairly close to Paris so we are ready to pick up our friends Dan and Karen who will be joining us for the next two weeks.  We wake fairly early and get  on the road,  Seriously, I don't know how we would manage without the technology that supports our navigation system.  Terry has chosen the town of Reims, France as our destination which is about 4 hours away.  Breakfast is not available in the hotel so we figure we'll just pick up a snack along the way.  I thank Krista for advising us to stay off the main highways when we can.  We do that for most of the day and enjoy the beauty of the backwoods.  So many small towns and villages.  They are all different in some aspect.  Of course each locality has a church which seems to be the pride and joy of the town.  Drop top weather allows us to feel the freedom of meandering over the river and through the woods as we get closer to Reims.  Hunger finally catches up with us and we find a spot to grab a quick baguette.  Sure beats the hell out of the usual  fast food joint that you find back home.  The trip is uneventful and we find ourselves in front of our hotel a few hours later.  The town boasts a beautiful Cathedral and fortunately it is just a short walk from our hotel.  We find it in short order and is indeed worthy of the time we take to tour the inside.  It is an amazing piece of architecture  and we find ourselves with sore necks from admiring the scenes adorning the windows and very tall ceilings.

OK, now we are seriously hungry so we locate the town square which we have found in the past offers all kinds of restaurants with many culinary choices.  Tonight we feast on Mediterranean food and it satisfies us immensely.  A short walk back to the hotel, Terry off to bed while I take a short stroll across the street along the canal.  We look forward to seeing our friends tomorrow.
