We awake to another beautiful day!  We are truly blessed with the gorgeous weather!   We take our meal in the dining room and have our fill of a traditional European breakfast.  Soft boiled eggs, thinly sliced meats and cheese, cucumbers and tomatoes and of course a croissant or two.  Don't worry Docksiders, we're going to stick with our own traditional breakfast.  So we're all packed and ready for the next leg of our journey.  We set the navigation (which have now come to adore) and head west.  Zurich is our first intended stop but it turns out we do a drive through and choose to tour Luzerne instead.  Good choice we think.  We find a parking spot in the busy town but we need to pay and alas we have no Francs!  It's a Sunday so not many places are open and we are challenged to find an ATM.  Ah, the nav system will help!  She tells us there is one just around the corner but we are unable to find it.  We can't leave the car without paying, so I set off on an ATM finding mission.
All I need is like 5 Francs but I have to take a minimum amount out of the ATM but we figure we will fill the gas tank before leaving Switzerland and use the money that way.  We are so smart!
Mission accomplished, we feed the meter and set off towards, where else, the water.  Terry enjoys a Swiss beer while I people watch.  The area is astoundingly beautiful.  The contrast of old and new set in the backdrop of the serene lake.

After walking the wooden bridge, we make out way back to the car.  The navigation system allows us to input our destination with the choice of avoiding highways. We do just that and end up on a lovely two lane country road that winds us through beautiful farmland and pastureland.  What a great day.  Top down, wind blowing in our hair.  This is what we have come to enjoy!  Snap, back to reality and to the crazy city driving which is now Basel.  Within the labyrinth of streets lies our hotel.  This has been our biggest challenge of the whole trip, to find the actual location we are searching for.  After several failed attempts and 3 times around the circle we finally find what we are looking for.  We check in, park the car and realized we are famished.  There is a lovely restaurant attached to the hotel, overlooking the Rhine and we order the first "real" dinner.  It if fabulous. I choose the local fish dish and Terry tries his first wienerschnitzal, with the river as our view we couldn't ask for anything more.

After dinner, we walk across the bridge and enjoy the last bit of light as this day comes to an end.

  1. Nice! That's 9 less than the Willamette, but we don't have a wooden bridge!
